Three-Axis Mechanical Locking Mechanism (Head Replacement System)
The Full Counter model utilizes a three-axis mechanical locking mechanism, allowing both the head and handle to be independently interchangeable. This system securely fixes the head from three directions, preventing accidental detachment even under extreme conditions.
Designed for expandability and customization, Muthos Homura is future-ready—enabling users to attach components such as hammers to the same handle.
Note: When disassembling the product yourself, please observe all guidelines, including tightening to specified torque and using a new U-nut.
Multi-AXE Design
Featuring a three-step geometry engineered to reflect the splitting mechanism of an axe, this multi-AXE design incorporates three distinct axe forms within a single body.
- 1st Step: A sharp angle optimized for easy entry into firewood — 1 AXE
- 2nd Step: Once embedded, the blade forces the wood apart laterally — +2 AXEs
- 3rd Step: Final separation splits the wood fully across the grain — +1 AXE
Hammered Handle & Die-Cast Base
Metal products often convey a sterile impression, lacking the depth and warmth found in wooden tools. To challenge this perception, this product features a hammered handle pattern—distinct from the naguri texture—unachievable through traditional wood shaping.
In a bold departure from industry norms, the aluminum die-cast body is left untreated, allowing natural flow lines from the casting process to remain visible. This decision imparts a vintage aesthetic that cannot be replicated through conventional surface finishing.
Despite its metallic nature, the handle represents the ultimate pursuit of raw, untamed character.
Note: In standard aluminum die casting, shot blasting or similar techniques are typically used to smooth the surface and remove flash.
Note: The hammered pattern is inspired by the traditional craftsmanship of Tsubame-Sanjo, and has become a signature design of Muthos Homura.
Flat Back Surface
The reverse side of the AXE features a flat mechanism, making it suitable for tasks such as:
- Light hammering operations
- Batoning—striking the blade to split firewood
Optimal Hardness and Material Selection for Axes
Backed by extensive experience in cutting tools, Muthos Homura has studied the essential performance requirements for the axe’s cutting edge:
- Impact resistance (highest priority)
- Edge retention
- Resharpening capability
To meet these criteria, the team conducted numerous tests and adopted a tool-grade alloy steel that strikes a balance—not too hard, not too soft—with added toughness (resilience). Compared to the carbon steel commonly used in conventional axes, this material offers significantly enhanced hardness and durability.
Note: As a steel-based component, it is prone to rust. Please maintain the axe with regular oiling after use.

It comes standard with a dedicated acrylic stand, allowing you to enjoy it as a piece of interior decor even when not in use—such as during downtime at camp.
Note: For safety reasons, we recommend storing the product with its sheath attached to prevent injury in the event of accidental tipping or falling.
