A truly limited edition model commemorating the milestone of 1,000 total units sold of the Prominence MH-001.
Crafted with an obsession for black, this version features:
1. Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating with a finely honed edge by a master knife craftsman
2. Laser-engraved serial number on the knife butt
3. Distinctive "Premium" logo
4. Ebony wood handle with "Black Edition" engraving and black stainless steel screws
5. Black Tochigi leather sheath
6. "Black Edition" branding on the traditional paulownia wood box
1. Diamond-Like Carbon Coating + Hand-Finished Edge by a Master Knife Craftsman
Among various surface treatments, we selected DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating—also used for F1 engine components. DLC, as its name implies, is a specialized chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process in which layers of carbon are structured in a diamond-like lattice.
To illustrate the exceptional surface hardness:
- Chromium plating: approx. 500 Hv
- TiN (gold-colored): approx. 1500 Hv
- TiAlN (purple): approx. 2000 Hv
- DLC: approx. 5000 Hv
This gives DLC a remarkably hard, durable surface layer.
Additionally, DLC offers outstanding wear resistance, heat resistance, and lubricity—so much so that it's employed in the internal pistons of Formula 1 engines, where conditions are among the most extreme.
For this model, we entrusted the coating process to the same company that handles F1 components, applying the DLC under identical conditions. Though the DLC layer slightly reduces sharpness, each knife undergoes meticulous final sharpening by a master craftsman to ensure peak cutting performance.
